Kurt Vonnegut

It seems that Kilgore Trout has left the building. Kurt Vonnegut died last night at the age of 84, as a result of injuries received in a fall last week.

This hit me harder than I would have expected. I’ve been a huge Vonnegut fan since high school, and have read most, if not all, of his 14 novels. I haven’t read him recently; this is not from failing interest but because I’ve read my copies of his books so many times that reading them again would be redundant. I know the stories and bring up the characters and situations in conversations as if I had just read them yesterday. Along with Douglas Adams (who died much too soon), Kurt Vonnegut has probably been one of my most-recommended authors over the years.

The world is a slightly sadder place today. So it goes.
